Peer Review Process

Bioscird Journal Club Reviews and Reports (BJCRR)

The Bioscird Journal Club Reviews and Reports (BJCRR) follows a rigorous, fair, and transparent peer review process to ensure the quality, originality, and academic integrity of all published manuscripts. Peer review serves as an essential component of scholarly publishing by helping authors improve their work and assisting editors in making informed publication decisions.

All submitted manuscripts undergo a structured evaluation process consisting of an initial editorial assessment followed by a double-blind peer review conducted by independent experts in the relevant field.

1. Initial Editorial Assessment

Upon submission, manuscripts are first evaluated by the editorial office to determine their suitability for the journal.

The preliminary assessment includes:

Relevance to the journal’s aims and scope
Compliance with submission guidelines and formatting requirements
Academic quality, clarity, and organization
Originality and plagiarism screening (similarity threshold: ≤ 19%)

Based on this assessment, the editorial office may issue one of the following decisions:

Reject
Minor Revision
Major Revision
Proceed to Peer Review

Authors are notified of editorial decisions through the OJS system along with comments where applicable.

2. Double-Blind Peer Review

Manuscripts that successfully pass the editorial screening are forwarded to at least two independent reviewers under a double-blind review model, where the identities of both authors and reviewers remain confidential throughout the review process.

Reviewers evaluate manuscripts based on:

Originality and novelty of the research
Scientific rigor and methodological quality
Clarity, structure, and coherence of presentation
Ethical standards and research integrity
Contribution and relevance to the field

Reviewer recommendations may include:

Accept
Minor Revision
Major Revision
Reject

3. Reviewer Responsibilities

Objectivity: Reviews should be conducted fairly and without bias.
Confidentiality: Manuscripts and review materials must be treated as confidential documents.
Conflict of Interest: Reviewers should decline review requests where conflicts of interest exist.
Constructive Feedback: Comments should remain professional and helpful for improving the manuscript.
Timeliness: Reviewers are generally expected to complete evaluations within the assigned review period.

4. Revision and Editorial Decision

Authors receiving revision requests must address all reviewer comments carefully and submit a revised manuscript together with a detailed response document.

Minor revisions are usually evaluated by the editorial team.
Major revisions may be returned to the original reviewers for further assessment.
The final publication decision is made by the Editor-in-Chief or handling editor.

5. Transparency and Communication

All communications, reviewer reports, editorial comments, and decisions are managed through the journal’s OJS platform to ensure transparency, efficiency, and proper documentation throughout the review process.

6. Ethical Considerations

Reviewers and editors are expected to report any concerns related to plagiarism, duplicate publication, data manipulation, ethical misconduct, or research integrity issues. Such concerns are handled confidentially and in accordance with accepted publication ethics standards.

7. Special Cases and Appeals

Revised manuscripts may undergo additional rounds of peer review where necessary.
In specific cases, the editorial board may conduct an internal editorial review.
Authors may appeal editorial decisions by submitting a justified explanation to the editorial office.
